About Oakdale Angling Club

In 1955 Alf Matthews, a keen angler and family man, discovered that none of the angling clubs in the Caulfield/Oakleigh area catered for women and children. He decided to something about this and founded OAKDALE ANGLING CLUB; a family oriented club that would cater for everyone.

From its humble beginnings when a small group of club members met in each other's homes, OAKDALE now has over 100 members and meets fortnightly in the modern surrounds of the Murrumbeena Trust Building at Murrumbeena Park.

The club caters for its members many angling interests by conducting regular competitive angling trips throughout the year and it organises, promotes, and runs an annual surf fishing carnival at Venus Bay.

The club owns a holiday house in South Gippsland, and offers its members friendship and a range of social activities.

Originally a General Committee administered all the club affairs. However as membership and the scope of the club grew a system of an executive and various standing committees has developed to run the club. Oakdale is now an incorporated body which plays an important role in most aspects of amateur angling in Victoria.

Alf Matthew's vision has certainly borne fruit. The family tradition is still strong and Oakdale believes it has something to offer anyone who is interested in angling. Oakdale Angling Club always welcomes new members.
