Fished from Early morning to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

This was our annual inter club competion against Ormond Angling Club and they won the shield again! It was a sunny day with light winds which strenghtened later in the day. There were quite a few nice holes to fish with just a little weed, although more did come in with the tide. Some members lost a number of rigs. Fishing was a bit hit and miss with Eddy Tusia again having the heaviest bag and a salmon of 810gms gave him the heaviest fish. Members of both clubs enjoyed a BBQ and chat at the end of the day.

12 Jun 2010

Location: Marlo

Fished saltwater

Fished from Not listed to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

This was Oakdale A.C's Queens Birthday long weekend trip down to Marlo. 5 members fished from kayaks and the others from boats and although the fishing was not great some good fish were caught. Saturday was windy with a bit of rain and with the large amount of freshwater coming down the system a lot of the fish had been pushed down towards the mouth. Plenty of fish were sounded as they had schooled up but only 2 fish were weighed in. Sunday was a bit better with the weather improving and a few more fish were caught. The main target species were Bream but there were also some nice Silver Trevally and Estuary Perch mixed in with them. The fish came on the chew at the tide change. Monday was a cracker day with no wind and little cloud cover. The fish came on the bite around 10.00am and some lovely Bream were landed including a 1900gram fish. The bite only lasted for about 30 mins but everyone fishing caught a fish or two. The heaviest bag of weighed in fish for the club was caught by Mike Doody with 6 fish for 5110 grams. The best lures were the metal blades fished slow along the bottom in the salt water wedge that pushed up the system with the incoming tide.It was good sight seeing all the kayaks fishing the same school of fish on the Monday. (Report from Martin Fellows.)

16 May 2010

Fished from Not listed to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Gunnamatta was the venue for this surf trip. The weather was great - sunny with a little cloud and a light breeze. The water was clean with little weed. Fishing was patchy with Ken Matthau landing 6 salmon to have the heaviest bag and Eddie Tusia's salmon of just under a kilo was the heaviest fish. Best bait's were pilchards and white bait.

17 Apr 2010

Location: Goulburn River

from Mid Morning to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

What great weather we had for this trip. With a late morning start of 11am the day had already warmed up and there was very little breeze. The river was a bit low but mostly clear. Members fished with maggots, worms, powerbait, soft plastics and lures. Soft plastic worked well with all fish returned to the water, with maggots catching the only two trout that were weighed in. John Van Vliet and Mark Dalziel had one trout each, with John's the heavier. Henry Tabone fished the same area on Friday for a nice brown of about 1kg.

5 Apr 2010

Location: Coronet Bay

Fished saltwater

Fished from Mid Morning to Midday

Martin Fellows reports -:

Fished with Mike Doody out of our kayaks. We launched from the beach and as it was low tide we pumped up some bass yabbies and then headed out to the broken ground about 400 metres out. As the tide began to flood the King George Whiting came on the chew. I finished with 16 lovely fish ranging from 36 to 40cm and Mike had 10 plus a few other species. The day before I fished the same area and caught 9 Whiting so this is proving to be a productive area.

28 Feb 2010

Location: Stony Point

Fished saltwater

Fished from Early morning to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Members launched at Stony Point to fish Westernport. The wind was a strong southerly which made for choppy seas and fishing was a bit rocky. Not many whiting were caught with 2 pike, flathead and an Elephant fish also presented at the weigh-in. Jose Giaquinta had the Elephant fish which was the heaviest fish for the day.

Bob Evans reports -:

Russell Quinn and I spent 5 days enjoying some fishing in the river and inlet. We got plenty of Bream and a few Luderick, two of which weighed over a kilo, as did two of the Bream. The best day was Wednesday as we both got our bag limit, mine being 6.7kgs and Russell's was 8kg. One big catch we didn't want was a Moray eel, about a metre long and as thick as my wrist.

8 Nov 2009

Location: Powlett River

Fished saltwater

Fished from Late morning to Late afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

On this trip the mouth was open so the river was tidal with members fishing a rising tide. The water was clear below the bridge and got tanny as you went further upstream. Mark Dalziel had 4 nice bream, the heaviest being just over a kilo, to have the heaviest fish and bag. He got one on pod worm but then was bothered by a lot of small fish so went to using freshwater yabbies which worked well.

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Members fished Bemm river on the Melbourne cup week-end. Weather was great all the time with none of thr storms that parts of Melbourne had. It was warm and sunny with some cloud Sunday afternoon and Monday and the fishing was great. The entrance had been blasted open some weeks before and the water level was very low. The only problem that caused was finding enough water to get across the inlet to the river mouth. The boats had to be pushed over on a few occasions but it did make it easier to pump sand worms. The river was the best place to fish and Martin Fellows hooked and released 4 bream over a kilo using 'Camo worm' soft plastics. Heaviest bag for the week-end went to Henry Tabone and heaviest fish on Saturday, Sunday and Monday went to Martin, Kumi Cammell and Jose Giaquinta respectively. Sand worms worked best with prawns and bass yabbies working well too.

25 Oct 2009

Location: Stony Point

Fished saltwater

Fished from Early morning to Early afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Westernport was a bit choppy when members launched at 9am. There was a strong south westerly blowing so it was a bit bumpy heading south but better on the return trip. Various species of fish were caught - snapper, whiting, salmon, mullet and treavally. Dion Pontin had the best day taking the heaviest bag award with 5 fish (6.6kgs) which included a snapper of 3.6kgs.

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

The Breakaway was the venue for this freshwater trip with an 8am start. It was a perfect day, sunny with a light breeze. The river was very low with some pebble beds visible that made it possible to walk from one side to the other. Maggots were the best bait with Eddie Tuscia landing 4 rainbow trout to have the heavieat bag and Mark Dalziel's brown of 1.2kgs was the heaviest fish.

26 Sep 2009

Location: Purrumbete

from Not listed to Not listed

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

This was not a good week-end to be out fishing on a boat, even on Purrumbete. Saturday was extremely windy with some members off the water by 1pm. There was also rain to contend with in the afternoon and with the wind chill the teperature was about 6 degrees. Sunday was no better and no-one fished. Only one rainbow trout (300gms) and one brown (535gms) were caught.

12 Sep 2009

from Late morning to Late afternoon

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Members fished the Goulburn from Gilmour's bridge to near the pondage. The river was very low but the weather was perfect, mostly sunny with a light breeze. Mark Constantine had 2 small rainbows and one weighing 2.7kgs which took maggots.

Oakdale Angling Club reports -:

Thirteen members fished this estuary trip. The river mouth was open and the water quite dirty. Most areas up and down stream were tried and various baits used but there were very few fish sighted. Graeme Dodson was the only one to catch anything. His estuary perch of 545gms was the heaviest fish and bag for the day.
