ANNUAL PRESIDENT'S REPORT 2018-2019
On looking back over the past year I feel only partly qualified to make this report as I was out of action for a significant part of the year but with thanks to Vice President, David Rosenfield, Secretary David Taylor, and other members of the Executive and Club members who handled Club activities during my absence.
We continued to alternate between more formal General Meetings and less formal Members Meetings which has proven to be workable and gives club members the opportunity to fraternise more on meeting nights. Number at Club meetings has been fairly constant which would indicate that members gain some satisfaction from attending meetings and we thank all members for their continued and loyal support. We have continued to try to find ways of satisfying our members expectations, promoting the club and increasing membership and whilst some of these have proven to be unsuccessful we should not stop in trying to find new ways of achieving these aims and ensuring the very existence of the Club. A club cannot run without the efforts and contribution of the Executive who met regularly during the year and various Committees of the Club and we acknowledge the contribution of these members all of whom will continue in their current positions for the next year. David Rosenfield as Vice President and PR and who also stood in for me when absent from the club. David Taylor as Secretary of the Club who carries out his many secretarial and more duties in a quiet and unassuming way and has been proactive in involving the Club in many new activities such as the Bunnings Barbecue, fly fishing instruction and boat safety presentation. David also looks after our website but relies on input from Club members to keep the website up to date. David's contribution to the Club cannot be underestimated. Mike Stapleton as Assistant Secretary who has worked closely with David and passed on his vast experience. Martin Fellows again handling our financial matters and for his meticulous control of the Club's finances and payment of accounts and presentation of our Annual Statements. Martin has maintained our bank balance at greater than $10,000 and building in preparation for kitchen renovations at Waratah Bay Wrest. To John Van Vliet as Angling Chairman and Scorer for again coordinating our wide range of fishing activities and keeping accurate and up to date angling records. John also compiles and distributes our year book always on time. To active members who acted as captains of the day on the various fishing trips. To Russell May who continued the role of membership and followed up with personal calls to members. To Celia Tabone once again for her organisation of the Christmas breakup and the issue of an annual newsletter. To Ken Caldecott and Andre Dobler for organising raffle prizes and running the raffles at club meetings and being first at the club on meeting nights to set up the hall. Milroy De Vos has agreed to join the Social Committee and we look forward to his contribution and new ideas. Mal Hunter continued to look after bookings and maintenance of our most valuable asset "The Wrest" at Waratah Bayand the many members who used this facility throughout the year and those who attended the two working bees throughout the year. We continued with members providing supper at Club Meetings on a roster basis, this seems to have worked and we thank all for their help. The above are just some of the many functions required to run the Club and we thank all for their attendance at Club meetings and their contribution towards the Club in their various capacities. We welcomed new members Edacala Manoj, Ben Pederick and Matt Geddes all of whom took advantage of joining the club at their first meeting and whilst we haven't seen them at Club meetings we encourage all club members to follow up potential new members. On a not so good note we note the passing of Jose Giaquinta, Gwen Rees, Jock Humphrey, and loyal supporter Nell Hunter. Their contribution and support of the Club over many years is acknowledged. Two working bees were held at Waratah Bay during the year and we thank Club members who attended and much needed and important work was done. Thanks to Mal Hunter for organising these as we know it is very important to keep this most valuable asset in good condition. Continued maintenance is important and we are also considering renovation of the kitchen and other works and improvements which will keep the Wrest "up to scratch" and make it attractive to Club members and outside hirers. These working bees involve expenses and we should always be mindful that Waratah Bay should be self supporting from a financial aspect. Further working bees are planned for September 14th/15th this year and May 2020. W also continued to be involved in the planned redevelopment of the Murrumbeena Park Pavillion with the football and cricket clubs. Although only small compared to the other clubs, as a co-tenant of the building our input and requirements have been very much included at several planning meetings so far. Consensus this year was that again we have the presentation night on a meeting night at the hall and this proved to be very successful. About 20 attended in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and congratulations to all trophy winners and thanks again to John Van Vliet who collated results and arranged trophies. We congratulate all trophy winners especially Champion of Champions John Van Vliet, runner-up Champion of Champions Ken Caldecott who was also awarded the Club Person of the Year for his overall contribution to the Club during 2018/2019. Of note was the fact that we had 13 trophy winners in the 25 categories with some excellent catches and Masters Awards. John Van Vliet also achieved the distinguished Master Master's Badge by weighing in Masters Fish in each of the five categories Trout, Snapper, Australian Salmon, King George Whiting and Bream. We have to continually find ways of promoting and making our Club interesting in order to increase membership and ensure the very survival of the Club and any ideas to achieve this will be welcomed. Thanks to all who contributed during the year and we look forward to your continued support in the future. Thank You Ken Anderson |

YOUR PRESIDENT AT WORK
Has taken a while for the photo to surface, but it shows the old bloke can still frighten a fish at Port Douglas!

MEMBER INPUT REQUIRED
Over the last couple of months we have had some interesting Club Nights with the instruction night from Transport Safety Victoria and the most informative presentation on fly fishing from Gavin Hurley.
Your input to your own Club would be helpful in organising future entertaining or informative evenings. Give it some thought and pop your ideas in an email to oakdale@oakdaleac.org.au
Also helpful would be member's suggestions on our meeting raffle prizes. What do you suggest? Better prize quality? Increased ticket price? The drop off in numbers buying raffle tickets results in a smaller prize pool to source from. Email again would be good.

Although not fully publicised at this stage a provisional concept ideas are being formulated on a multi-million dollar Murrumbeena Community Hub development funded by the State Government and Glen Eira Council.
We are looking to be part of the development combined with the current site sports users encompassing mens football, womens football, junior football, bowling, cricket, junior cricket and womens cricket. Early stages yet, but we will keep you informed on progress. |
st NeYOUR WEBSITE IS UP AND RUNNING
It is up to you members to give input. We want news, views, photos, and any other items of interest to go here on the website.
CLUB HISTORIAN
As a follow up from the Members Night clean up and clean out of our storeroom at Murrumbeena Park Hall, with the membership numbers dropping down and the existing members amongst our elders suffering both short and long term memory malfunctions, the Committee has asked Celia Tabone if she take on the task of Club Historian.
There must be many great stories and details of our Club's activities and memberships from a time long past, and they are the history of our Club which should not be allowed to be forgotten.
Celia will have access to all our old records, minuted details and photographs, but she would also appreciate any items of interest regarding the Club history which may be in the hands of members. Anything you may have could be forwarded via the Club's email address. (oakdale@oakdaleac.org.au)
